• Koh Phra Thong - Local Transport

Historically, this area of Phang Nga has been difficult to access. In 2005 a new main road was built from Ranong to Phuket opening up this exceptional region of Thailand to tourism.

Bus, Car, Boat or Plane - How to do it!

Koh Phra Thong is accessible through a variety of means. Which you choose will depend on your available time and budget. The first step is to get to Khuraburi from your arrival point in Thailand.

    From Bangkok to Khuraburi

By plane: Internal flights are available through a number of operators to Phuket or Krabi. Low cost carrier Air Asia offer great value money with flights to Phuket or Krabi for as little as 1,000 Bt one way. See below on how to get from Phuket or Krabi to Khuraburi.

By bus: Excellent government buses run directly to Khuraburi from the South Government Bus Station. The most appealing are the 24 seat Super VIP buses coasting 750 Bt. These are spacious, cool and comfortable.

There are several departures leaving Bangkok in the evening and arriving in Khuraburi 10 hours later for an early breakfast. There are also a number of 32 seat VIP buses at around 550 Bt.

Perhaps the biggest consideration when travelling from Bangkok to Khuraburi by government bus is the fact that you cannot book in advance. This is because no way of paying over the internet has been implemented as yet. This means that prospective travellers must go to the bus station to buy the tickets.

You can either go with your luggage expecting/hoping to be able to buy a ticket and travel within the day or you can go a few days beforehand to buy your ticket. A compromise between these two could be the most effective method.

It is also possible to leave at other times of the day but this will require a change of bus at Phang Nga.

As such, you can turn up at Phuket government bus station at any time before 6pm to find a bus leaving within a couple of hours.
